我在网上找到的一位美国选手自己写的自己的参赛记录,还是有一些可以参考的地方,感谢在罗吧上的easy716朋友帮忙翻译成了中文。

While this was my third year at the contest, it was only my first as a competitor. Arriving on Saturday morning, I was quite confident(a little too confident)as on Friday, my robot put out every single candle I tested it with at home. My first practice at the competition was a shock. I had some serious wall banging problems. I did some work and made adjustments which corrected most of the trouble I was having, I guess it was just a different maze that was throwing me off. I went up to qualify, and smacked into a wall and got stuck. I realized later that my navigation control correction is too slow. I wen back, made some more adjustments and tested it out, and then successfully qualified. It was a great relief to qualify, especially since I had family watching...and

waiting.

On Sunday, I went in and set up and started charging my battery, which wasnt working. Luckily I had the same problem before, but no spare regulator, So my dad ran out to three different Radio Shacks and finally returned with a new part, at about 11:15. I had no chance for any practice runs, and my first run ended like my first try at qualifying: stuck on a wall. I was extremely discouraged and I was going crazy trying to fix my wall problem. I ended up getting it so that it would work pretty well, well most of the time. I took a very needed break outside where it was a comfortable temperature.

When I went back in, I go ready for my last 2 runs. I decided to do both right in a row, no matter the outcome of the first. On my second run, the candle was in my first room, a great relief! It extinguished it alright, it took a while because my fan battery was drained, but it worked! I set up again for the third trial, and the candle was in my second room. The robot manuevered perfectly and went straight in for the candle. Again a drawn out extinguish, but

it was successful. So overall, I had one unsuccessful run, one average run, and one really great run. I wish they would post some results soon, I really want to know how I scored.

Other thoughts on the contest:

1. AC!, or at least open the doors

2. more room, I ended up with my own table by noon on Sunday, but many teams were really squished.

3. I believe they need to change some rules about the commercial robot thing. Kit bots should be in their own division.

4. I think there should be something similar done about individual versus team robots.

5. Higher or more visable "up next" lists

6. Speakers in the pits, I had a hard time hearing what was said on the microphone.

Next year is supposed to be more interesting, I hope the new rules and changes will be posted before the summer, I need to start working on my robot early this time.
